Thoughtful Horsemanship

Our Story

Journey Equestrian is a small, privately run farm in Copake, New York, founded in 2024 offering structured and horsemanship-centered riding instruction in a calm, intentional environment.

Founder Alex has been riding for over 20 years and teaching for more than a decade. She has an extensive and successful background competing in the hunter jumper divisions, bringing depth of experience and technical knowledge to her instruction.

Manager Sofia competed in intercollegiate dressage, where she developed a strong foundation in classical flatwork and correct fundamentals. She now oversees business operations at Journey Equestrian while assisting with lessons and flatwork training. Sofia brings structure, precision, and a thoughtful eye to both horse and rider development, supporting steady progression and balanced training within the program.

Driven by Education

Alex is also completing her clinical training toward licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Her background in social work informs the culture of the barn — prioritizing emotional safety, regulation, confidence-building, and developmentally appropriate instruction.

While lessons focus on strong fundamentals and correct flatwork, the program recognizes that learning alongside horses builds more than riding skill. It develops responsibility, self-awareness, and steady confidence in a thoughtfully structured setting.

About our Farm

Journey Equestrian is located at Buckley Farms in Copake, New York, a quiet, rural town surrounded by open land and working farms. Our program operates on 70 acres of thoughtfully maintained property, providing scenic trails, views of the rolling mountains, and a true authentic rural feel.

We are home to seven horses and five goats, all known for their friendly temperaments. Riders benefit from miles of on-property trails, a large and well-groomed outdoor arena, and a brand-new barn equipped with all essential amenities. The farm includes seven spacious horse paddocks designed to support healthy turnout and daily movement.

We cut our own hay twice each summer and maintain strong working relationships with neighboring farms, allowing us to stay connected to the agricultural roots of the community. The result is an environment that feels authentic, grounded, and intentionally cared for, a true working farm that supports both horses and riders.
